Violence
directed at healthcare workers,
allied staff, and patients has reached
epidemic proportions. Failure to
protect caregivers has been shown
to negatively impact the prognosis
of patients and reflect unfavorably
on the healthcare environment. Healthcare
workers who are injured by patients
and/or third persons may be unable
to render necessary treatment and
may further tax resources, creating
a dangerously depleted healthcare
delivery system. In addition, healthcare
workers injured on the job have
a higher burnout rate and create
a greater turnover rate for facilities
to contend with.
Over
the past twenty years hospital violence
has continued to increase substantially,
resulting in increased staff and
patient injuries. In addition, lawsuits
have followed with the awarding
of millions of dollars to plaintiffs
in litigation by the courts. It
has been also determined through
recent studies that Hospitals and
various healthcare facilities are
the number one crisis prone industry
in the United States.
Healthcare
cannot be administered if staff
are injured. TJA Non-Violent
Self-Protection Training Certification
Programs fully address
these concerns head-on with more
than 27 years in the violence management
field.
